At Secure Base Solutions we believe strongly in relationship and building connections that can hold steady regardless of distance and difference in circumstances. A number of states in Australia are in lockdown and with that we are experiencing the impact of disconnection, uncertainty, loss and grief. When we experience this type of vulnerability, our early attachment style can be triggered which shows through our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. This is not a bad thing, it just is, and we need to be aware and ‘here' for ourselves when it happens. Another way of being here for ourselves is nurturing our curiosity and transform vulnerability into our learning selves, opening up and listening to the experiences of others.
Last year*, while in lock down we were lucky to be able to spend some time with Shoshana Lyons & Helen Townsend from Beacon House UK and Seán Cameron & Colin Maginn from Pillars of Parenting UK.
Beacon House is one of the most therapeutic, creative and child centred practice I have come across. They work with those that have experienced trauma and walk along aside individuals and families on their journey of healing. Not only do they provide a direct service that changes lives Beacon House supports external practitioners through training and resources developed in house. As practitioners Liz and I have thoroughly enjoyed and gained wisdom from our conversations with Shoshana and Helen and have seen how passion can create something truly wonderful.
We decided that an interview style** may work best as we are all very good talkers and we wanted share specific and purposeful information for colleagues in Australia. We hope you enjoy hearing about the beginnings, the work and the passions of Shoshana, Helen, Sean and Colin and we would like to thank them for their time and wisdom.

Look out for more interviews and conversations later in 2021/22.
* These videos have taken time to edit, much longer than we expected and we thank those who have assisted in the process
** Lisa is not by any stretch of the imagination a professional interviewer. However, she is profoundly interested in what others are doing in the field and she, with Liz want to share the amazing work of others.
Pillars of Parenting focus on Looked After Children (Out of Home Care / Permanency Placements), they provide simple and effective strategies that assists carers to hold, care and develop children and young people who have experience major disruption to their attachment and secure base.
They have online learning for carers that is deep in knowledge and guidance but most of all warmth. They have recently written a book which explains the work they do and how we can draw on their experience and our own to support children and young people in care.
We hope you enjoy hearing about the beginnings, the work and the passions of Shoshana, Helen, Sean and Colin and we would like to thank them for their time and wisdom.
